Applications

Course participants must usually be 18 years or over.

We may be prepared to accept applications from under 18s only if they are non-resident and are in a group of at least 2 adults who are prepared to accept responsibility for them.

Applications are preferred from pre-formed string quartets. Depending on circumstances, we may be able to accept applications from string trios, quintets or sextets, or small groups containing other instruments such as piano or a woodwind instrument.

Individuals may apply but their application will only be accepted if it possible to incorporate them into a group. This may only be possible if a pre-formed group needs to replace a member at short notice.

Playing rooms are within the teaching buildings of the main School. Not all the buildings have lifts to the first floor. If you require a ground floor playing room, please let us know at the time of application. Please note that the concerts are held in a first floor room accessible by a lift but, in general, the site is not suitable for wheelchairs. If you have any concerns over access, please let us know at the time of application and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Meals are provided by the School’s catering staff and served in the School dining hall. They cater for us very well and can cater for most dietary requirements. Please state any dietary requirements at the time of booking.

The Sixth-Form Common Room is available for relaxation. There is also a kitchen which is kept supplied with tea (several types), coffee and milk.

For those opting to be residential, accommodation is in single bedrooms generally in the School’s sixth form block. There are no tea/coffee making facilities in any of the bedrooms. None of the rooms have en-suite facilities. Bathroom facilities are in single-sex blocks off the landings adjacent to the bedroom corridors. If you need to be close to a bathroom, please let us know and we will try to allocate you a suitable room. Please bring your own towel and toiletries.

You are responsible for ensuring your belongings, including your instruments, are adequately insured. Playing rooms cannot be individually locked but access to each block of rooms is controlled by code/keypad entry points, and these blocks are alarmed between 10pm and 8am. Please note that, in general, there are no facilities for playing instruments after 10pm and before 8am.
